Laterally constrained inversion (LCI) of multi-configuration EMI data with tunable sharpness

چکیده
Frequency-domain electromagnetic (FDEM) data are commonly inverted to characterize subsurface geoelectrical properties using smoothness constraints in 1D inversion schemes assuming a layered medium. Smoothness suitable for imaging gradual transitions of caused, example, by varying sand, clay, or fluid content. However, such approaches limited characterizing sharp interfaces. Alternative regularizations based on the minimum gradient support (MGS) stabilizers can, instead, be used promote results with different levels smoothness/sharpness selected simply acting so-called focusing parameter. The MGS regularization has been implemented kinds geophysical strategies. concerning FDEM data, only vertically constrained (VCI) but not laterally (LCI) approaches. We present novel LCI approach vertical and lateral direction. Using synthetic field examples, we demonstrate that our can efficiently automatically provide set model solutions characterized sharpness variable consistencies. In terms misfit, obtained contains equivalent models allowing us also investigate non-uniqueness inversion.

Piecewise 1D laterally constrained inversion of resistivity data
In a sedimentary environment, layered models are often capable of representing the actual geology more accurately than smooth minimum structure models. Furthermore, interval thicknesses and resistivities are often the parameters to which nongeophysicist experts can relate and base decisions on when using them in waste site remediation, groundwater modelling and physical planning. We present a l...
متن کاملModel Recognition by 1-d Laterally Constrained Inversion of Resistivity Data
Several 2-D “minimum structure” inversion algorithms (de Groot-Hedlin and Constable, 1990) are available for interpretation of profile oriented resistivity data (e.g. Oldenburg and Li, 1994; Loke, 1995). For very large data sets these algorithms are intensive to run and the models are often hard to interpret in terms of a layered geological model which is the most suitable model type in sedimen...

generally, the measured secondary field data is inverted into resistivity using two principal models; the homogeneous half-space model and the layered half-space model. while the homogeneous half-space inversion uses single frequency data, the inversion is done individually for each of the frequencies used, the multi-layer 1d inversion is able to take the data of all frequencies available into ...
متن کاملConstrained inversion of P-S seismic data
A method to estimate S-wave interval velocity, using P-S seismic data is presented. The method is composed of three steps. First, the P-S data are converted to a relative change in S-velocity section. The section is then linearized. Constrained inversion is used to convert this last section to S-interval velocity. To illustrate the method, the S velocity of a field data set was derived, and a V...
